Don\u2019t wait to communicate important information.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting too long can negatively affect your brand reputation and also confuse or stress your audience. They may assume you don\u2019t care or that you aren\u2019t taking the situation seriously.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Be compassionate and considerate.<\/h3>\n<p>Take time to think about how the crisis is having a direct impact on your community, customers, and followers.<\/p>\n<p>Pause insensitive marketing campaigns \u2014 like contests or humorous content \u2014 and unnecessary events \u2014 like in-person workshops or conferences.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Describe the actions you\u2019re taking to deal with the situation.<\/h3>\n<p>Your customers, prospects, and community want to know what you\u2019re doing to support the health, safety, and well-being of the community.<\/p>\n<p>Ask yourself the following questions and consider addressing these questions in your email marketing communication:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How are you cleaning your workplace or building differently?<\/li>\n<li>How are you protecting your customers and your staff?<\/li>\n<li>Have your hours of operation changed?<\/li>\n<li>Will your customers\u2019 service be disrupted? Will product deliveries be delayed?<\/li>\n<li>How can customers contact you with questions?<\/li>\n<li>Where can customers get the latest information about how you\u2019re handling the crisis?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 4: Try to help.<\/h3>\n<p>Businesses that take action to help those affected by the crisis will connect with their audience on a deeper level. People want to do business with brands who genuinely care.<\/p>\n<p>Consider taking the following steps to help your audience during the crisis:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set up a relief fund for those affected by the crisis.<\/li>\n<li>Create educational content that will help your audience navigate or understand the crisis.<\/li>\n<li>Discount your product or service or give it away for free.<\/li>\n<li>Use your product or service to help people suffering from the crisis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Step 5: Don\u2019t joke about the situation. Take it seriously.<\/h3>\n<p>You could come across as insensitive and unaware of the impact the crisis has on the world and your direct customer base.<\/p>\n<p>Use a serious tone in your emails \u2014 even if this isn\u2019t your typical brand voice.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 6: Don\u2019t take advantage of the situation.<\/h3>\n<p>If your product or service is in high demand due to the crisis, don\u2019t raise your prices. While this is a smart practice in normal times due to the law of supply and demand, it\u2019s insensitive and unethical during times of crisis.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 7: Monitor the crisis and adjust communications appropriately.<\/h3>\n<p>Communicate regularly with your audience throughout the crisis. Don\u2019t be afraid to change how you\u2019re addressing or handling the crisis and update your audience with new information.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 8: Show your audience you care.<\/h3>\n<p>Your audience may be stressed, upset, or in danger during this crisis.
